Bédar

Situated in the foothills of the mountain range of the same name, Bédar still retains the charm and tranquility of times gone by. Both the panoramic views from Bedar and the countryside around Bedar are extraordinarily beautiful. In the mountains you will find groups of very pretty farm houses which are good examples of rural architecture. Almost every house in the village, with its steep, narrow streets, is situated in a privileged position with a great vantage point from which to look out over incredible views. The town is a favourite retreat for artists and those searching genuine beauty and tranquility without total isolation.

Bedar

Carboneras

The beauty of this attractive city lies in the strong contrast between the mountainous and arid terrain that surrounds it and the deep blue of the Mediterranean that bathes its beaches. Carboneras possesses a typical Arabic architectural style; for example, the Casa del Laberinto ("Labyrinth House"), located in front of Marinicas beach. Close by, there are some majestic houses from the 19th century, such as that of the Fuentes. Near the port, the castle of San Andrés, built by the Marquis of El Carpio in the 16th century, still overlooks the coastline, on which exist several other watchtowers, such as the Rayo ("Ray").

Carboneras

Garrucha

Is primarily a thriving fishing town and port. It also has a smart beach front; a marble paseo bordered by fish restaurants, and a clean beach making it very popular with tourists. Especially so on market days (Fridays) and during fiestas. Garrucha has some very good fish restaurants, some on the beach itself. The town is well serviced, clean and bustling all year round. You will find all the usual amenities such as supermarkets, shops, garages, banks, schools and medical centres all this within 40 min drive.

Garrucha

Vera

A busy town near three golf courses and two marinas close by. Other attractions like the water parks and health clubs, added to a relaxed beach atmosphere give Vera Playa a level of suburban comfort popular with those who prefer a flat beach terrain to mountainous dwellings. The town itself has a lovely plaza next to the church and has the same type of amenities as Gurracha.

Mojacar Playa and Mojacar Pueblo

Situated 60 minutes from Almeria, it offers more than 17 kilometers of unspoilt beaches. Along the almost straight coastline you will find rocky enclaves that are very quiet to the busier promenade front towards Caboneras (although it's nothing like the packed beaches that you get in other parts of Spain). You have a wide range of places to eat from the simple to the exotic. From English to Argentinian. And because it is so long, there is always plenty of space on Mojacar Playa. Whether it is sailing, fishing, bowling, tennis, golf or watersports that take your fancy or simply relaxing on an uncrowded beach soaking up the sun, you will find it all and more in and around Mojacar.

The Moorish romantic old town of Mojacar Peublo, perched high on a hill with narrow kasbah streets and courtyards overlooks Mojacar playa and the blue Mediterranean. It's a real retreat for artists who take full advantage of the views. It too also has some pleasant shops and restaurants.

Mojacar Pueblo

Sorbas

The main town for Campico de Honor. Its only 25 min drive from the village and you find all the usual services such as banks, schools, medical centres, bars, shops and restaurants. However, Sorbas is far from the usual.

The town is perched on the edge of a deep chasm overlooking the Río de Aguas. It has an interesting 16th century church & 17th century mansion said to have been a summer retreat of the Duke of Alba. Local pottery is also available here and nearby are the fascinating Yesos de Sorbas caves.

Close to Sorbas, Karst de yesos is one of the most importants parts of Almería. Over millions of years, chemical reactions in the underground water have created a breathtaking network of linked caves and galleries, as well as being a source of natural plaster for the building industry.

Sorbas has many historic buildings, including the 17th century Iglesia de Santa María, the House of Duke of Alba, the Teatro del Carpio. Typical of the town are the "casas colgantes", overhanging houses that seemingly stuck to the sides of a deep gorge. And in Alfarería, there are some Moorish furnaces that are still in use today.
