The Village
El Campico De Honor
El Campico de Honor is an Andalucian village that is being rebuilt to its former glory using the best of modern building techniques. The development is been done by C.R.Gibbs of Sheffield Ltd who have a proven track record of renovating buildings that are not only sensitive to the past but also the environment in which they belong. Borough Mews and St Georges Church are just two examples of Gibbs' award winning renovation.
El Campico de Honor really is a unique development and is set within flat planes surrounded by the beautiful Cabrerra mountains in the Almeria region. The village has a fascinating history (the clue's in the name of the village). Queen Isabella and King Fernando stopped there during the 16th century on route to Granada. She's the one who sponsored Columbus and is also responsible for the Spanish Inquisition. So not only could you follow in the footsteps of one of Europe's most influencial leaders, but you could own a property in the very village that was given the name "de Honor" in respect of her visit.
One of the big advantages of the village is the area. It's only a short distance to the main auto route N344 (2 kms) and within 20 - 30 minutes of beaches, golf courses, airport and major towns. Sorbas, the main town for Campico is just 15 minutes away. Skiing in the Sierra Navada is only 2 hours away and the countryside around Campico is a walkers dream. It's close enough to all the key places, but far enough away to feel special and a retreat from the crowds.
The whole village rebuild is environmentally sound as well as socially - using existing land and bringing it back to life. We are not spoiling the landscape, but utilizing the plots that are there. Campico De Honor is more interesting than living on an urbanization - which can be like ghost towns for much of the year.
El Campico de Honor is realizing a Spanish dream with a special twist. It's much more than just "a place in the sun".
